the most visually pleasing, structurally sound web site in the most cost effective way.

Communication is Key:

Once you have decided on how you want to approach your web site and have decided on a designer/developer, communication with them is going to be the most important aspect to complete your project on time and within budget. To do this, you’ll want to be proactive in the production process.

Once you have decided on a designer/developer start to think about these key features you want to incorporate within your site:

· Company logo
· Banners
· Graphics
· Photographs
· Text
· Links
· Color scheme
· Other web sites which have a similar look and feel

This will allow your designer/developer to completely understand how you would like your web sites presentation to look and feel. At this point your designer/developer will begin production on a layout for your site. During this time it will become imperative that you start to collect the “meat” of the information which you plan on putting within your site. A major reason why web sites are not completed on time is not that they haven’t been developed right, but the information that is needed for them is not ready. You will want to avoid this by thinking ahead, and preparing that information.

Once your designer/developer has completed the layout for your site, they will send it to you for confirmation. At this point, you will want to completely review the layout, and communicate any concerns or changes that you want incorporated within your site because once you agree to a layout and production is started on that site, the layout becomes locked and modifications to that layout may increase the cost.

After confirmation is given and all materials are given to your designer/developer they will begin the process of completing the site in its entirety. During this time it will not be uncommon for the designer/developer to place sections of the site on the internet where you can begin to look through it. At this point you will begin to start to see the overall presentation and communicating your ideas or slight changes to your designer/developer is going to be crucial, remembering that once the site has been completed you do not want to have to go back and change the position of the logo because it was placed slightly off. Designers/developers are here to meet your needs, and if something that they have created for you is not exactly how you had envisioned it, let them know so they can modify it.

After final completion of the site, it will be uploaded to your hosting server. At this point you are going to want to review the site to make sure that it is functioning properly in its entirety. Your designer/developer will have already tested the site, however when you spend weeks working on a project sometimes mistakes start to look like the proper function. It is always best to have several other people review it before you accept it as complete. Once this has happened, your design/development stage is complete and you will then have to work through a web master and either an hourly or yearly contract.

Communication between you and your web master is also going to be crucial. As web sites become more and more complex, their ability to understand exactly where you want the updated information to go and how you want that information to look will determine how fast and how effective the updates will be. Again, once an update has taken place you will want to review it to make sure that it is functioning properly; otherwise your clients may be receiving the wrong message. Another key is to have all of the information gathered together for a single update at one time before you begin giving it to your web master. Once you begin trickling information in because it is not completely ready, is typically when errors begin to happen, which may take several hours to complete.

At Penguins Ink we understand that communication is going to be the most important factor in completing your web site in a timely manner and within your budget, while still giving your visitors the presentation that you had envisioned when you decided to venture onto the internet. Our designers/developers are always available during the production process to talk with you to make modifications to designs, and final projects.
